The petroleum industry is comprised of Geoscientists who have demanding functionality and performance requirements. IT departments are trying to increase the reliability of software on the desktop, simplify software deployments to the Geoscientists’ desktop to cut software installation and maintenance costs, while maintaining the security of both corporate data and the users’ desktop.

In response to these conflicting demands, petroWEB has developed a Smart Client application which provides the Geoscientist with a highly performant environment with sophisticated querying/interpretive capabilities. For the IT department it provides a centralized application which can be automatically deployed from a URL. Updates to the application are isolated to local folders (no DLL conflicts) and make no registry changes which eliminates conflicts with other applications. The result is an application which is similar in deployment to a Web page but with the performance characteristics of a traditional application.

Smart Client balances the end user's requirements for a rich, performant application with IT's requirement for lower deployment and maintenance costs.
